Hoquetus David for Brass Trio

This piece is somewhat of an oddity, and one of Machaut’s most recorded works. It is a Medieval hocket seemingly written for TTB voices, however without any words and is usually played instrumentally. The underlying melody is taken from an embellishment on the word ‘David’ from an earlier piece by PĂ©rotin. It has also had some influence on contemporary composers, having been arranged by Sir Harrison Birtwistle and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.

Arranged here by Nicolas MacDonald for 2 Trumpets and Trombone.
